DES Declares Air Quality Action Day
Unhealthy Air Pollution Levels
Concord, NH - The
New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services (DES) is expecting air
pollution concentrations to reach unhealthy levels for sensitive individuals
in Cheshire, Hillsborough, and Rockingham Counties on Tuesday, July 6.
DES officials are calling for an Air Quality Action Day and advise
sensitive individuals in these areas to take precautions to protect their
health by limiting prolonged or heavy exertion.
Sensitive individuals include children and older adults, anyone with
heart or lung disease such as asthma, emphysema, and bronchitis, and people
who are active outdoors. Even
healthy individuals may experience mild health effects and should consider
limiting strenuous or prolonged activities.
DES forecasts
unhealthy concentrations of ground-level ozone (the main component of smog)
for sensitive individuals in the above-mentioned
regions.
In addition, concentrations of fine particle pollution are
Unhealthy air
quality is anticipated due to the persistence of high temperatures under
sunny skies and light winds transporting pollution into New Hampshire from
surrounding areas. Additional
advisories will be made if unhealthy air quality is expected to continue
later into the week.
Symptoms of ozone
exposure include coughing, wheezing, chest tightness or pain when inhaling
deeply, and shortness of breath.
Symptoms of particle pollution exposure for people with heart disease
may include chest pain, palpitations, shortness of breath, and fatigue.
People with existing lung diseases may not be able to breathe as
deeply or vigorously as normal and may experience symptoms such as coughing
and shortness of breath. The
severity of the health effects increases as ozone and fine particle
concentrations increase. In
addition to harmful health effects, fine particle pollution may create hazy
conditions that reduce visibility.
For further
information, contact DES at (603) 271-1370.

The Friends of the Meeting House and the Meeting House Stewardship Committee
Notice from the Board of Selectmen
To the
Residents of Epsom:
The Board
of Selectmen has decided to write a letter to share some information with
you about our decision to move the Town Offices to
Our Town
does not own property currently suitable and ready for occupancy for Town
Offices, so for many years we have been spending a lot of money on rent. As
you know, attempts have been made to prepare the Meeting House for a
possible location, but no funding was appropriated for engineering and
architectural work this year, so that project was put away for the time
being. In the mean time, our current lease at 27 Black Hall Road will expire
on
Some of
the things we considered were:
Rent
Utilities
Space
(Facility that would fit the storage and work space required)
Layout of the space
Moving costs
Renovation costs
Parking
Security
Interruption of Business.
Staying
at the current location we looked at:
Rent
was going to go up, even if we did not ask the landlord to build an
expansion
Utilities were high because the heating and cooling systems in the
current location are not efficient
We do
not have enough space for climate controlled storage of historical files
or new paperwork required by the State or Federal Government
Staff
work areas were chopped up and did not allow for efficient work areas
Parking can be an issue
Welfare did not have a private entrance
Interruption of electrical service
Safety in entering / exiting
Safety for children playing.
There
is approximately 1000 more square feet of space in the new location
We
have devised our own floor plan
It is
centrally located
The
property owner at the new location is paying for all of the renovations,
moving, and wiring, moving the safe, as well as other expenses we incur
related to the old location (wall repair, etc.)
The
rent remains the same for the remainder of 2010
It is
a 10-year lease agreement with an opportunity to “break” the lease
without penalty after 5-years if we move into a Town owned building
Utilities are still unknown, and may not increase since we are looking
at doing an energy audit to upgrade our lighting.
The
Office Staff is making all the arrangements, including packing.
Parking and security will both improve at the new location
We
would only have to close the Offices for two days during the move (May
26th and May 27th) and will be open in the new
location on June 1st. The
Town Clerk has agreed to open her office one additional day before the
move
Chichester Town Office offered to process registrations on May 26 and May 27 from 8:30am to 2:00pm.
